A celebration of Kutchi culture set on the surreal white salt desert — folk music and dance, handicrafts, camel rides, and tent-city stays under the full moon.

Created by the Gujarat Tourism Department to showcase the unique beauty of the white salt desert and to preserve the intricate embroidery, pottery, and folk traditions of the region's diverse tribal communities.

A massive, high-quality tent city is set up in the desert. Guests enjoy nightly folk music and Sufi singing, camel cart rides across the white sands, hot-air ballooning, and browsing extensive artisan marketplaces.

The festival features a formal opening ceremony led by state cultural leaders, alongside daily evening cultural programs showcasing traditional Kutchi dance forms like the Siddi Dhamal or Garba.

Local communities view the festival as a way to honor the resilient spirit of the desert folk who have created beautiful art and music despite the harsh environment of the salt marshes.

Inaugurated in 2005 under the vision of then-Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the festival turned an isolated seasonal salt marsh into a world-famous winter travel destination.

Rann Utsav transforms the quiet white salt desert into a beautiful celebration of color. The landscape features bright stalls filled with local mirror-work textiles and hand-carved pottery, contrasting sharply with the pale desert. As night falls, the cold desert air echoes with the haunting melodies of Kutchi folk instruments, creating a magical setting under the vast open sky.
