Sultanpur National Park is a wetland bird sanctuary near Gurugram, Haryana, centred on a shallow lake declared a Ramsar site of international importance in 2021. Protected since 1972 and made a national park in 1991, it draws large numbers of migratory waterbirds each winter, including Siberian cranes and flamingos, alongside resident species.

When to go

November to early March is peak season for migratory birds; the park closes from mid-June to mid-September during the breeding season.

Why visit

Watch flamingos, cranes, pelicans and other migratory waterbirds from observation towers, spot resident kingfishers, storks and nilgai, and experience one of North India's best-known wetland bird habitats.

How to reach

By Road: The park is on the Gurugram-Farrukhnagar road, about 15 km from Gurugram and 46 km from Delhi. By Air and Train: Indira Gandhi International Airport (about 48 km) is the nearest airport, and Gurgaon Junction is the nearest railway station.

Bhadrakali Temple (Kurukshetra) in Thanesar, Kurukshetra, Haryana is one of the Shakti Peethas, the sacred shrines of the Divine Mother in the Shakta tradition of Hinduism. According to tradition, this is where the **ankle bone** of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Vishnu's Sudarshana Chakra divided her body. Here the Goddess is worshipped as **Savitri (Bhadrakali)**, and her guardian Bhairava (a form of Shiva) as **Sthanu**. Shakti Peethas are among the holiest pilgrimage sites for devotees of the Goddess, drawing pilgrims especially during Navratri and Durga Puja. Each is tied to the legend of Sati, whose body parts fell across the Indian subcontinent and beyond, sanctifying the ground where they landed.
