Chotila Hill rises abruptly from the flat plains of the Surendranagar district in Saurashtra, a near-symmetrical cone standing about 350 metres high. It is best known as the seat of the goddess Chamunda Mata, whose hilltop shrine draws a steady stream of pilgrims who climb the long covered stairway of more than 600 stone steps to the summit.

October to March. Warm days, cold mornings, and the only months in which the step climb is not punishing.
