Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is an 18.5 sq km protected area and botanical garden in Sepahijala district, about 25 km from Agartala. It combines natural forest with a zoological park, and is known for primates including the rare spectacled langur (Phayre's leaf monkey), along with clouded leopards, deer and around 150 bird species.

When to go

October to March offers cooler, drier weather and the best birdwatching, including migratory species; March-April is hot and humid.

Why visit

See rare spectacled langurs and other primates up close, walk through botanical and butterfly gardens, spot migratory birds on the lake, and visit the clouded leopard enclosure.

How to reach

By Road: Sepahijala is about 25 km from Agartala via NH8, under an hour by bus, taxi or car. By Air and Train: Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and Agartala Railway Station, both in Agartala, are the nearest air and rail gateways.
