Champhai is Mizoram's third-largest town, a district headquarters on the India-Myanmar border roughly 180-195 km from Aizawl. Built around a valley of terraced paddy fields, it is known as the 'rice bowl of Mizoram', functions as a border-trade hub via the nearby Zokhawthar crossing, and its hamlets hold old Mizo memorial monoliths.

When to go

October to June is favoured, avoiding the heavy June-September monsoon; winters (December-February) are cool and dry with clear valley views.

How to reach

By Road: Champhai is roughly 180-195 km from Aizawl via NH-6, a drive of about 5-7 hours by bus, shared sumo or private car. By Air and Train: Lengpui Airport near Aizawl is the nearest airport, with a limited weekly helicopter service also connecting Aizawl and Champhai; Sairang Railway Station, about 15 km from Aizawl, opened in September 2025 as Mizoram's first direct rail link.
