Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, is a hill city draped across steep ridges at around 1,100 metres. Known for its warm Mizo culture, churches and lively markets, there are long views from Durtlang Hills and landmarks such as Solomon's Temple, all set among green northeastern hills.
When to go
October to March has the most pleasant, clear weather for exploring the hills.
Why visit
Aizawl is built along a ridge so steep that the streets stack over one another. Do not arrive on a Sunday — the city shuts for church, shops and all. Mizoram needs an Inner Line Permit, which can be had on arrival at the airport.
