Bhongir (Bhuvanagiri) Fort sits on a single colossal granite rock said to date to the 12th-century Western Chalukya ruler Tribhuvanamalla, from whom the town takes its name. Walls and gateways spiral up the monolith's bare face to a summit with cisterns, magazines and a cannon still gazing over the Telangana plains. It is now also a popular rock-climbing site.
